Roblox treats text differently depending on where you paste it, and knowing the map saves a lot of trial and error. If a character is not supported you will see it dropped or replaced immediately — nothing breaks, you just try a simpler style. Bold, small caps and bubble text have the best survival rate; heavily-combined styles like zalgo are the most likely to be stripped.

Your username (the @handle) is fixed to plain characters — letters, numbers, one underscore, 3 to 20 characters — and changing it costs Robux. Your display name is free to change every 7 days, holds 3 to 20 characters, and is where the styling happens: a bold 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞 or small-caps ɴᴀᴍᴇ display name shows up in-game, on your profile, and in friends lists while your plain username stays untouched underneath. If your goal is a cool name floating over your avatar, the display name is the field you want.

Roblox runs every piece of player-generated text through its safety filter, and anything the filter cannot verify gets replaced with # characters. The filter is stricter for players under 13, so a styled name that renders fine on an adult account can appear as hashtags for younger players. In live chat the filtering is strongest of all — most decorated Unicode gets hashed there, which is why fancy text on Roblox works best in names, profiles and descriptions rather than chat messages. Keep a plain-text fallback of anything important, and remember that readability beats decoration when other players are deciding whether to friend you mid-game.
