Vaporwave Text Generator

The stretched characters of vaporwave text are fullwidth forms, and they exist for a strictly practical reason: East Asian typography sets every character — kanji, kana, hanzi — in an identical square cell, and ordinary narrow Latin letters wreck that grid. So the standards encoded a second Latin alphabet, each letter widened to occupy a full square (Ａ at U+FF21 and its siblings), letting English words sit flush inside Japanese and Chinese text. Every fullwidth letter you paste is borrowed CJK typesetting infrastructure.

The spacious, airy look that reads as 'aesthetic' to Western eyes is literally the rhythm of a Japanese page — which is fitting, given where the style's revival came from.

Vaporwave the aesthetic comes from vaporwave the music: an early-2010s internet microgenre built from slowed, chopped 80s mall-pop and smooth jazz, wrapped in Windows 95 interfaces, Greek busts, sunset grids and — crucially — fullwidth text. The landmark album, Macintosh Plus's 'Floral Shoppe' (2011), spelled its artist and tracklist in wide characters and Japanese, and the genre's whole visual identity followed: ＡＥＳＴＨＥＴＩＣ became the style's one-word logo.

The genre faded; the typography stayed. A decade on, fullwidth text still signals retro-digital nostalgia — the look of an internet that was slower, weirder and pink-and-teal — and it remains the only text style on this site named after a music genre.
