Gothic Letter T — Copy & Paste

For centuries, the single most lavishly decorated letter in Western books was a T. The Canon of the Mass — the central prayer of the medieval liturgy — begins 'Te igitur, clementissime Pater...', and in mass books that opening T became the showpiece of the entire volume: painted full-page, filled with gold leaf, often wrapped around a crucifixion scene whose cross echoed the letter's own shape. Art historians treat 'Te igitur pages' as a genre in their own right, and in many missals more money was spent on that one T than on whole gatherings of text.

So the gothic 𝔗 you copy here belongs to the most celebrated initial in the tradition — the letter medieval patrons paid to turn into art, page after page, for five hundred years.

The Fraktur lowercase 𝔱 (U+1D531) is compact and businesslike: a short stem rising just above the x-height with an angled head-stroke doing crossbar duty. It is markedly less tall than the true ascenders around it, which matters in dense text — German words lean on t constantly (und, nicht, gut, alt), and its half-height keeps those words from becoming pickets of full-height strokes.

The capital 𝔗 (U+1D517) curls its crossbar into hooks and breaks its stem in the standard Fraktur manner — ornate enough that, like its bold sibling, it benefits from context or size when used alone.

T-names — Theodor, Teresa, Tobias, Tatiana — give the 𝔗 regular monogram use, best at sizes where its hooked crossbar reads as design rather than ambiguity. In words, the lowercase's modest height serves 'truth', 'winter' and 'castle' well.
